European standards
The new methods to be developed will be based on existing European standards for energy efficiency (EPBD), for example, while at the same time initiating the development of new technical standards for smart energy performance certificates.
Digital logbooks
The SmartLivingEPC certificate will be fully compatible with digital logbooks and building renovation passports, allowing building energy performance information to be included in digital databases. In addition to energy performance, the certificate will include multiple indicators, think financial information and environmental impact.
Buildings and complexes
SmartLivingEPC will develop two parallel systems, one at the building level (Building EPC) and one at the level of building complexes (Complex EPC), with the ultimate goal in the near future of certifying building complexes based on the certification of individual units, as well as on complementary aspects according to an integrated participatory and neighborhood-oriented approach.
What distinguishes SmartLivingEPC from D^2EPC, for example, is its application in building complexes, with the goal of energy certification at the neighborhood level. In addition, non-energy related aspects such as water consumption, noise pollution and acoustics are also included.
16 partners from 12 European countries will collaborate and provide their expertise and resources during the 36-month SmartLivingEPC run.
SmartLivingEPC launched in July 2022 and is funded by the European Commission under the
Horizon Europe research and innovation program
