Abstract:
Under H2020 program, the European Commission (EC) is investing in projects that aim to develop IT tools that are attractive to its users and therefore leading to a long-term behavior change for energy savings. Four of such funded projects are: BENEFFICE, enCOMPASS, MOBISTYLE and UtilitEE. To ensure exploitation and further uptake of the project results, EC provides Support Services for Exploitation of Research Results (SSERR). Through this support, a workshop was held at the Sustainable Places Conference 2019 to present the business value proposition of the above mentioned H2020 projects. This paper presents the outcomes of the workshop on how to pitch the research projects. Conclusive remarks were given to provide projects partners further recommendations on how to exploit the results to key actors (such as investors and business partners).

In this workshop, we discussed the exploitation experiences gathered in some relevant H2020 projects on deep renovation: TripleA-reno, ProGETonE, P2Endure, 4rinEU, STUNNING, and TURNkey Retrofit. Abstract
At present European buildings typically consume two to five times more energy than predicted at the design stage. An important cause of this performance gap is the discrepancies between the design specification and the As-Built condition. Such discrepancies are mainly due to the gaps in know-how between design, production and construction professionals. Design is more and more contained into a virtual environment and loses touch with the physical production and construction sites. As the construction sector enters the Industry 4.0 era, Building Information Modelling (BIM) based Mixed Reality can intertwine virtual and real worlds to bridge the knowhow gaps.

Abstract
Ninety per cent of the existing building stock in Europe was built before 1990. These buildings are in urgent need for a significant improvement of energy efficiency through renovation. State-of-the-art renovation solutions are available, but costly and lengthy renovation processes and incomprehensible technical complexities hinder the achievement of a wide impact at a European scale. This paper presents a research on Plug-and-Play (PnP) technologies supported by Building Information Modelling (BIM) to provide affordable, interchangeable and quick-installation solutions to overcome the main barriers of building deep renovation.

Abstract
Self-inspection of buildings is the process of controlling the quality of construction work in order to ensure that the specifications are implemented according to the design. Under current practices, self-inspection is totally dependent on the operator's skills, being a process that can be time-consuming and sometimes difficult to achieve. The Intuitive Self-Inspection Techniques using Augmented Reality (INSITER; for construction, refurbishment and maintenance of energy-efficient buildings made of prefabricated components) project aims to develop a software tool to support construction workers in self-inspection processes, with the overall object of reducing major errors and extra costs. Nevertheless, one of the challenges is the lack of interoperability between the various equipment used to carry out self-inspection. Devices and current tools deployed on-site do not speak the same language, which leads to a lack of communication. Therefore, this paper presents a framework under which the equipment would be able to send information in a common format. For this purpose, the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) de-facto standard has been established as a viable data model to represent all the information related to the building project. Along these lines, Building Information Modeling (BIM) information and IFC-compliant databases have been designed for the representation of data coming from Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling, laser scanning, thermography and sensor networks. Besides the IFC data repositories, the framework is a multi-layer architecture with the goal of ensuring interoperability and promoting the stakeholders' objectives for self-inspection during the entire construction process.

Abstract
Energy efficiency in buildings is one of the main goals of many governmental policies due to their high impact on the carbon dioxide emissions in Europe. One of these targets is to reduce energy consumption in healthcare buildings, which are known to be among the most energy-demanding building types. Although design decisions made at early design phases have a significant impact on the energy performance of the realized buildings, only a small portion of possible early designs is analyzed, which does not ensure an optimal building design. We propose an automated early design support workflow, accompanied by a set of tools, for achieving nearly zero emission healthcare buildings. It is intended to be used by decision makers during the early design phase. It starts with the user-defined letter and the design rules, which are the input for the Early Design Configurator (EDC). The EDC generates multiple design alternatives following an evolutionary algorithm while trying to satisfy user requirements and geometric constraints. The generated alternatives are then validated by means of an Early Design Validator (EDV), and then, early energy and cost assessments are made using two early assessment tools. A user-friendly dashboard is used to guide the user and to illustrate the workflow results, whereas the chosen alternative at the end of the workflow is considered as the starting point for the next design phases. Our proposal has been implemented using Building Information Models (BIM) and validated by means of a case study on a healthcare building and several real demonstrations from different countries in the context of the European project STREAMER.

Abstract
The benefits of prefabricated retrofitting solutions for NET Zero Energy buildings (such as prefabricated components for building envelopes, windows, equipment) are at risk because of bad implementation during the construction processes. As a result, the energy-efficiency potential as designed will not be realised. The European Horizon 2020 research project INSITER develops a quality assurance method that closes the performance gap between design and construction. This paper reports on the first phase of such a method, being a desk research to identify the most frequent construction errors, state-of-the-art diagnostic instruments to detect the errors and suitable standards for performance control.

Abstract
The Open Standard Concept Modelling Ontology (CMO) with Extensions makes it possible to store parametric modelling semantics and parametric geometry in a Semantic Web environment. The parametric and geometrical part of CMO with Extensions is developed within the EU project Proficient. The nature of the Semantic Web with support for multiple inheritance and bidirectional relations is kept; this means an alternative way to store typical parametric behavior scripts. This paper describes the generic upper-ontology created to make this possible, the tools used to visualize the parametric geometry and some of the new Modelling Guidelines we developed during development of CMO with Extensions and several test cases. Within the EU project Proficient a link to existing data was very important; therefore import/export from/to the open standard IFC was researched. A beta version for conversion in both directions (IFC => CMO and CMO => IFC) of the geometry is created and will be discussed.

Abstract
This paper discusses the empirical research as a part of the EU FP7 collaborative research project STREAMER (www.streamer-project.eu). The project aims to develop semantic Building Information Model (BIM) methods and tools for designing energy-efficient hospitals. The research activities are dedicated to enriching the BIM with semantic data for energy performance simulation. The preliminary findings discussed in this paper are derived from a real case study of Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The project focuses on the design process for a new extension of the existing building complex. In this case, the design requirement is developed using a web-based tool called BriefBuilder®. The requirement data are imported into a modelling software for BIM. Subsequently, the model is exported to the IFC open interoperability format, and enriched with semantic information that allows the user to perform an energy performance simulation using specialized software.

Abstract
In this paper, the European research project STREAMER was shown in the topic "Optimised design methodologies for energy efficient buildings integrated into the neighborhood energy systems". The Streamer research project aims at use and development of a semantic approach to design starting from the combination of BIM and GIS systems. A case study in Careggi hospital, Florence (Italy) is shown, together with the expected results.

Abstract
Construction and maintenance activities of bridges often bring negative impacts to the urban environment in terms of disturbance, traffic jams and disruptions, noise, dust, and air pollution. Lack of coordination between the stakeholders in strategic, tactical and operational construction planning process has been identified as a key factor behind these negative impacts. Attempts to solve this issue critically depend on an effective interoperability between ICT tools from the building domain (based on Building Information Model or BIM) and the urban planning domain (based on three dimensional Geographical Information System or 3D GIS). Research on the interoperability between BIM and GIS requires knowledge of Open BIM as well as Open GIS and their interconnection. Unfortunately, Open BIM and Open GIS have been developed separately and they have pursued different standards and technologies. Open BIM for civil infrastructure projects is still limited, especially due to the fact that the IFC open standard currently targets the building sector. Open GIS mainly relies on the use of GML/CityGML standard. This paper focuses on research to develop a solution for the interoperability of BIM and GIS, especially for the purpose of low-disturbance construction. It reports the on-going EU FP7 collaborative research project PANTURA. The preliminary achievements include a prototype solution that consists of: an architecture for the integration solution between BIM and GIS data and tools; an Application Domain Extension (ADE) that connects BIM data from the bridge with the computational parameters on disturbance in a GIS-based planning tool Urban Strategy; a configuration of open-source Deegree 3D model server; and a query interface between the model server and the decision-support tool. The prototype solution is verified using two case studies: on-site assembly of a new bridge on La Palma island, Spain; and refurbishment of existing bridges in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Abstract
The subject of energy-efficient buildings (EeB) is among the most urgent research priorities in the European Union (EU). In order to achieve the broadest impact, innovative approaches to EeB need to resolve challenges at the neighbourhood level, instead of only focusing on improvements of individual buildings. For this purpose, the design phase of new building projects as well as building retrofitting projects is the crucial moment for integrating multi-scale EeB solutions.

In EeB design process, clients, architects, technical designers, contractors, and end-users altogether need new methods and tools for designing energy-efficiency buildings integrated into their neighbourhoods. Since the scope of designing covers multiple dimensions, the new design methodology relies on the inter-operability between Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS). Design for EeB optimisation needs to put attention on the inter-connections between the architectural systems and the MEP/HVAC systems, as well as on the relation of Product Lifecycle Modelling (PLM), Building Management Systems (BMS), BIM and GIS.

This paper is descriptive and it presents an actual EU FP7 large-scale collaborative research project titled STREAMER. The research on the inter-operability between BIM and GIS for holistic design of energy-efficient buildings in neighbourhood scale has been supported by real case studies of mixed-use healthcare districts. The new design methodology encompasses all scales and all lifecycle phases of the built environment, as well as the whole lifecycle of the information models that comprises: Building Information Model (BIM), Building Assembly Model (BAM), Building Energy Model (BEM), and Building Operation Optimisation Model (BOOM).
