The INSITER project proposal was drawn up by DEMO Consultants, who was also the project coordinator. The research is carried out with the Dutch partners SBRCURnet, ISSO and DWA. Foreign key partners were Ipostudio Architetti Srl and Universita Politecnica Delle Marche from Italy, FraunhoferGesellschaft and Hochtief Vicon from Germany, Dragados and Fundacion Cartif from Spain and LMS International NV from Belgium.
INSITER aims to bridge the performance gap between design and realization. Self-instruction and self-inspection are the leading methods. BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the integrating technology for data storage and communication. VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) are software visualization techniques, to which measuring devices such as thermal imaging cameras or SoundBrush for identification of acoustic leakage, can be linked, making measured performance visible. The INSITER solutions are a combination of methodology (process organization), software (information technology) and applied state-of-the-art measuring instruments.

INSITER has opted for self-instruction and self-inspection for a number of reasons:
- by directly engaging the construction worker, quality control remains affordable;
- by self-instruction, the construction worker knows what is required of him and what can go wrong;
- self-inspection immediately checks for any errors and can therefore also be repaired immediately, without consequential damage and without unnecessary time loss.
